UNCLE ED:
Hi boys and girls. Welcome to Uncle Ed's one and only true world of science
Today we are going to investigate the parable of Plato's cave.
What Plato said is that we really don't know what reality is. That it could just be some
kind of fantasy world that some one has been manipulating for us.
And to help is my two assistance here in Uncle Ed's Playhouse
This is Helga
Can you say hi Helga?
Helga:
Hi
UNCLE ED:
And this is Susan. Susan can you say hi?
Susan:
Hi
UNCLE ED:
And for Plato's cave what we have to have is special chairs.
Special chairs will keep Helga and Susan from looking around and seeing what is going on
beside them. Because this is what Plato said.
And also we have a special Reality. This is our reality. It is going to be here on the
screen. Now we have to put Helga and Susan in our special chairs.
Now the shields on the side are so they can't see what is going on beside them.
The only reality they are aware of is the one in front of them.
They're in their special chairs. Now what we are going to do is light a candle.
And the candle will project onto the screen their reality and according to Plato they
would think that this is them because they cannot see to the side of them they are not
aware that they have any bodies at all.
Helga will think this is their reality and they will think this is them.
You wouldn't think that Ed had electricity but I have electricity and I am
going to use it to make the reality for Helga and Susan.
Now Helga and Susan thinks this is their reality so lets let them talk and tell you what
they think.
Susan:
Oh Helga why are you flopping around so much.
Helga:
O' I don't know. I guess I drank to much coffee but you are doing a lot of flopping also
Susan.
Susan:
I Know but Helga why are you always higher up than me.
Helga:
Maybe I am godly. Maybe that is why I am higher than you.
Susan:
I guess you could be
ED:
Now watch me throw. Uncle Ed will throw a real trick on them.
Susan:
O Helga you must be drunk.
I see two of you.
Helga:
Susan if you see two of me then you are the drunk one.
Don't you think? Not me. So maybe we are both drunk.
Susan:
Well Helga what did we drink. I didn't drink anything.
Helga:
I don't know but my life is sure getting blurry.
Ed:
Now I will really play a trick on them.
Susan:
"Oh Helga I must have passed out. I don't see anything anymore.
Helga:
Well maybe we both went to sleep Susan. I don't see anything either. But what is that
noise we are hearing.
Susan:
Maybe that is our soul. I hear it all the time. If there is any activity and all the time
there is no activity.
Ed:
That is Uncle Ed's One and only true world of science. Don't believe all that stuff the
other scientist try to teach you. This is the true reality. The true reality is only the
shadows on the wall or at least maybe that is all we are. Maybe we are just the shadows of
the world or the shadows on the wall.
