RED QUEEN or Plato’s Cave in Color

[Red Queen will be done with foam core on photographic light stands] [It will be performed by Dr. Jack – Dr. Jack will be dressed with white shirt, black bow tie, black suit jacket, black pants, black shoes, and black hat. FIRST MINUTE

Scene open with bright light (preferably near sun light in color) both for the stage and the audience. The visuals (gray foam core 22X28 and circle containing the Green Queen) will be in place on the two light stands. Dr. Jack will be on stage near the Green Queen.

All narration will be by Dr. Jack:

            “Hello boys and girls.  I am Dr. Jack.  This [points at the white foam core] is the Red Queen.  You can’t see her?  I know.  Because she is invisible. I am going to give you special (SPECIAL is emphasized) powers so you can see you. She is inside your mind.  She has been there all the time.  I will tell you how to bring her out.”

THIS IS GETTING CLOSE TO THIRTY SECONDS

            “You have the powers of concentration that a human has. Yes you all appear human. You must stare at the tip of the Green Queen’s nose while you say these words silently and slowly to yourself. This concentration has to be beyond your normal concentration.  Because normally you only see the world outside.  You never see the world inside.

“So, now stare intently and say slowly and quietly to yourself; ‘ I have the force. I have the force. I have the force. I will see the Red Queen’.  The Green Queen will now start glowing at the edges. When she does you shift you gaze quickly to the black dot at the middle of the white paper.”

THIS CONCENTRATION SEQUENCE TAKES ABOUT 20 SECONDS

THIS POINT IN THE PERFORMANCE IS ABOUT ONE MINUTE

START SECOND MINUTE

You should have seen the Red Queen. If not you will have another chance later. Right now I am going to tell you about the Red Queen. The Red Queen was in your mind.  She was not on the sheet of white paper. 

When you really concentrate on what you are looking at you can see the world that really is. You do not see the world that has been conditioned into your mind for you to see.

One of the things that we think we know is that as things get farther away they become smaller. It is called perspective. However, the Red Queen does not get smaller as she gets farther away. Instead she gets larger or bigger. We all should, and I do, question all that we think we see.  For instance since the Red Queen gets larger as she gets farther away and smaller as she gets closer does this mean that there may be no three dimensional space as we know it? To answer this we have to go back to the second century and study the philosopher Ptolemy / [tol-uh-mee] . He created the theory that things are seen because rays of light are projected from our eyes. If we do project the red queen from our eyes, as we very well do, we can project her on a three dimensional wall parallel to your line of vision. If this three dimensional wall really exists then she will distort.

So kids don’t try this at home because you may discover a new reality that you cannot deal with. I have tried it and she does react to that wall but not in a way you may think.

ON MINUTE THIRTY EIGHT SECONDS FOR THIS SECTION

AT THIS POINT ABOUT TWO MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS USED

 Now it is time for us to capture the Red Queen. You have been given a Red Queen capture book.  Open it and you will see the Green Queen on the left side. If you are at the correct distance from the Green Queen that is here on stage you can capture her.  The Red Queen will shrink to fit the paper.  However, If you are too far or too close she will not fit in the capture book or she will not appear. So I provided a Green Queen for you that we know will be the correct size to appear and fit.  Be aware that as soon as you see the Red Queen you MUST close the book or she will escape.

So here we go;

“Stare intently and say slowly and quietly to yourself; ‘ I have the force. I have the force. I have the force. I will see the Red Queen’.  The Green Queen will now start glowing at the edges. When she does you shift you gaze quickly to the black dot on the other side of your capture book.”

If you closed quickly you have captured her. If you ever open the book she will escape.  She is very fast. You can always recapture her with the help of your Green Queen.
